Barking up a mooncake treat

GEORGE TOWN: Khoo Ai Nee's love for dogs knows no bounds. She has whipped up specially-made mooncakes so that her canine friends can celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival, too.

“I want them to enjoy the festivities by having food unique to the season,” said Khoo, a dog meal caterer at a pet shop in Straits Quay here yesterday.

For this Mid-Autumn festival, Khoo has come up with a mooncake recipe using jelly as the base for dogs.

“It's an improvement on what I did previously,” she said.

Canine joy: Three dogs Angel, Sasa and Fruity drooling over the jelly mooncakes at the pet shop in Penang.

“Last year, I baked the mooncake using sweet potato and pumpkin filling but the dogs would only eat the filling and not the skin,” she said.

“I also tried the snow skin mooncake but the canines had difficulty digesting the chewy skin and they vomitted it out. So, this year, I have come up with the jelly mooncake.”

Previously, she had a special menu for Chinese New Year and the bak chang festival.
